PURPOSE:To provide a cathode active substance where the production of hydrogen gas is suppressed without using mercury, by employing a cathode active substance made of zinc-lead alloy adhered with gallium on the surface. CONSTITUTION:A zinc-lead alloy is immersed in a water solution of a water soluble gallium salt (where the concentration of gallium is 0.1-10g/l) to adhere gallium with the reaction time of 1-60min under the reaction temperature lower than 80 deg.C. When selecting the gallium concentration, reaction time, reaction temperature, etc. in the gallium water solution, the adhesion of gallium against the zinc-lead alloy can be varied. After the adhesion it is cleaned and dried. |
