A microphone is connected through a wide band amplifier to digital pass band filters whose number is dependent on the number of voice patterns to be recognised. The filter outputs are connected to a combining circuit comprising several ROM's. Priority logic circuits operate for the low fundamental frequencies for certain sounds and exclude certain consonants. Bistable registers enable the circuit to be reset by a push button for a change of speaker by selecting other input combinations for the combining network. The outputs of these registers are connected to the address inputs to control the changing of the data pages in the memories. An additional circuit enables the combining circuit to be connected to a correction circuit.
