Process for the water-saving cooling of a washing liquor

The washing liquor which, at the end of the washing programme, is contained in the tub of an automatically controlled drum-type washing machine having a level control at an upper and a lower level has to be cooled gradually, because too rapid a cooling of the washing liquor would precipitate the phosphates contained in it. In the known oscillating rinsing, the procedure is that, when an upper level is reached, the water supply is switched off and the liquor discharge switched on. After a lower level is reached, these operations are reversed again. The liquor cooling and dilution is therefore incomplete and necessitates too high an outlay of water in order to achieve the desired purpose. This disadvantage is to be avoided. According to the solution, when the upper level of the washing liquor diluted by cold water which has flowed in is reached, the washing drum is moved for 5 to 30 seconds, and thereafter the washing liquor is discharged as far as the lower level and then supplied again until the upper level is reached.
