The invention relates to the conversion of standard town plans and other road maps for reproduction in selectable sections on a CRT or plasma screen, primarily in motor vehicles. It includes the required combination of electrical engineering/electronic components for recording, storage and reproduction of the original (road map or the like). Since the recording and reproduction involve static image contents, no expensive equipment of the type used in commercial image data processing is required for the information conversion. The image contents may, for example, be stored on low-cost audio cassettes and can be transferred to the screen for example by means of modified audio cassette players or car radio/cassette players with the intermediate connection of an electronic conversion device.
