Conveyor for taking up slices (16), which a cutter (15) cuts off of piece of material (14). The conveyor has a belt (23), which is journalled on support rollers (21, 22) supported, by a frame (27). The belt's (23) taking up end is placed under the cutter (15) and its output end above another re-running band (18). The fixed end of the band under the cutter (15) is movable in an area that almost forms a right angle with the conveyor's direction of transport. Through intermittent operation of the band (23) a number of pieces (16) can fall down in a pile of the belt (23) after which a step is shifted as it is moved in the given area, through which a sharp mark between each of the following piles of pieces is obtained.
