PURPOSE:To increase the effect of engine braking by introducing open air into a catalyzer converter from a combustion chamber via an exhaust passage for working as a cooling air and preventing the converter from rising of temperature apt to be caused by deceleration. CONSTITUTION:When an engine 1 is decelerated, a deceleration detector 10 is operated to open a control valve 11, through which open air is introduced. This open air is at first introduced into a combustion chamber 2, and acts to the side to intermit the combustion of air-fuel mixture in the chamber 2 for increasing the effect of engine braking. Then, the open air is introduced into a converter 8 via an exhaust passage 7 for working as a cooling air, and reduces the temperature of the converter 8. |
