PURPOSE:To provide a titled device which can harden metallic pipes to be hardened efficiently without producing soft spots by containing and holding said pipes in an axial flow case which can be opened or closed laterally, and applying cooling liquid flow along the axial line direction upon the inside and outside circumferences of said metallic pipes. CONSTITUTION:A metallic pipe P placed on a cradle 6 is brought downward together with the cradle 6 and is positioned coaxially on the preceding end side of a nozzle 3. In this state, case constituting bodies 2a, 2b are advanced and retreated by opening and closing cylinders 15a, 15b to close an axial flow case 2; at the same time, the pipe P is grasped and fixed by pipe retainers; thereafter cooling liquid 4 is injected from the nozzle 3. The liquid 4 is run in the spacing between the outside circumferential surface of the pipe P and the inside circumferential surface of the case 2 and on the inside circumferential side of the pipe P along the axial line direction thereof. As a result, the cooling liquid heated by depriving the pipe P of heat and the generated steam are run quickly out to the down stream side, whereby the entire part of the pipe P is hardened uniformly and efficiently without producing soft spots. |
