A time delay switch which has a bimetallic switch, an electrical heating element, used for heating the bimetallic switch, and a heat store. In order to achieve a short switching-on delay time and a long switching-off delay time as well as a compact, small installed size, the heating element and the bimetallic switch are arranged between two metal arms and the assembly exhibiting these parts is arranged in a housing which supports at least one thermally insulating sleeve which is used for thermal insulation of the assembly.
