The invention relates to a method of extracting residual coal from the waste occurring during coal preparation, in the course of which the waste is further decomposed and subsequently prepared again. The further decomposition is effected by passing the waste through a hydraulic system, in particular a hydraulic transport system, or is carried out in a dry manner, in particular by drop or vibratory fragmentation. During the further decomposition, a thermal treatment of the waste is also provided from case to case. To carry out the method, a subsequent-decomposing arrangement for the waste is provided which has waste-descending sections and waste-vibrating devices or a hydraulic system which has at least one centrifugal pump and is in particular designed as a waste-transport system leading to the waste heap.
