Compounds of the general formula (B=CO or CH 2 , n=2-7, R<SP>1</SP>=halogen, NO 2 , CN, CF 3 or C 1-7 alkyl, R<SP>2</SP>=C 1-7 alkyl, OH or C 1-7 alkanoyloxy, R<SP>3</SP>=phenyl, (C 1-7 alkyl) phenyl, halophenyl, nitrophenyl or pyridyl, R<SP>4</SP> = NH 2 or protected amino and the broken lines denote optional bonds), N<SP>4</SP>-oxides of those compounds containing a 4,5-double bond and acid addition salts of the compounds and oxides in which R4=NH2 are prepared by reacting a 1-(alkali metal) derivative of a compound of the formula or an N<SP>4</SP>-oxide of such a compound in which a 4,5-double bond is present, with XC n H 2n R<SP>5</SP> (X=halogen, R<SP>5</SP> protected amino), optionally followed by conversion to a compound or oxide in which R<SP>4</SP> = NH 2 or a salt thereof.
