A two-piece two-chamber self-activating dental amalgam capsule is signed to have mercury in one chamber (7) and metal powder in the other chamber (8). One section [30) of the capsule contains a chamber (15) comprising inner and outer bore portions (14b, 14c) and the other section (31) of the capsule contains the chambers (7) and (8) preferably arranged concentrically and separated oy an annular wall (9). With the capsule closed, the free end of the wall (9) fits into the inner bore portion (14b) and seals the mercury in its chamber (7), the metal powder being sealed in a mixing compartment formed by the chambers (8) and (15). In use, the capsule is shaken and the resulting force due to the inertia of the mercury opens a normally-closed valve formed by a thinner and more flexible area of the wall (9). The mercury passes into the mixing compartment and becomes triturated with the metal powder due to the shaking and forms the dental amalgam required. |
