<p>A solid, elastomeric, copolymer or terpolymer comprises at least 80 percent by weight of at least one acrylate or methacrylate monomer having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms and a minor proportion of a metal or amine neutralized sulfonate monomer characterised by the formula: <CHEM> where X is (CH2)n or aromatic, wherein n = 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4, and Y is a cation selection from Groups IA, IIA, IB, and IIB of the Periodic Table or an amine of the formula: <CHEM> where R1, R2 and R3 are aliphatic groups of C1 to C12 or hydrogen: said copolymer or terpolymer being water insoluble and substantially gel-free, and having at least 0.2 weight percent but less than 5 weight percent of chemically combined sulfur.</p> |
