Profiles, juxtaposed on a cooling bed, are cooled by circulating coolant (e.g. a gas or a water mis) along he longitudinal channels formed between e rofiles, pref. while placing covers on the top and bottom of the profiles to form closed channels. - The method allows the profiles to be cooled sowly and symmetrically, to reduce distortion and minimise the amt. of, or even eliminate, subsequent straightening and allows the capacity of the cooling bed to be increased or the exit temp. of the profiles to be lowered, thus facilitating subsequent handling and marking of the profiles.
