PURPOSE:To complex metallic ions of a metallic salt selectively and facilitate the analysis of the metallic salt by the difference in the coloring and precipitating conditions, by bringing the metallic salt into contact with a specific hydrazone compound and an azo compound in the presence of a base. CONSTITUTION:Metallic ions of an alkali (earth) metal, preferably LiCl, are brought into contact with a hydrazone compound of formulaI[R<1> is lower alkyl or alkoxyalkyl; R<2> is halogen, lower alkyl, nitro or alkoxyl; R<3> is H, halogen, lower alkyl, nitro, alkoxyl or a group of polymeric molecule; (n) is an integer 0-4]and/or an azo compound of formula II in the presence of a base, e.g. triethylamine, in an organic solvent, e.g. ethanol, and complexed. Preferably, the base is used in a molar amount of 0.1-10 times that of the metallic salt, and the hydrazone and azo compounds are used in an amount of 10<-5>-10<-3>mol based on the solvent.
