PURPOSE:To detect upper, lower, left and right ends of a paper, by a method wherein a non-contact switch for sensing the presence or absence of a paper is provided on a printing head part which is moved. CONSTITUTION:A non-contact sensor (e.g., a reflection-type photosensor) 9 for sensing the presence or absence of the paper is fixed to a printing head 5 at a position in a central part of a card holder 8 in proximity to a platen 1. The sensor 9 is electrically connected to a controller, and a signal from the sensor 9 whose signal indicates the presence or absence of the paper is processed by the controller. The upper, lower, left and right ends of the paper are detected, and the paper is printed thereon at a predetermined position thereof. |
