In the method for producing a capacitor cup housing from a material which can flow, especially from aluminium, having a stamped, linear, slot-like wall weakened area as a nominal bursting point, the housing is drawn onto a retaining mandrel for the stamping process, which mandrel is constructed in a planar manner in its surface region which is used as the counterpunch for the stamping operation, and does not rest against the inner wall of the pulled-on housing in this surface region, while its inner wall rests on the retaining mandrel such that their surfaces touch and fit precisely, in all the other surface regions.
