In a steering damper for mounting a steerable front wheel of a motor vehicle, the design is such that it reaches its highest damping value at the dead centres of movement resulting from steering oscillations of a wheel carrier of the mount which bring about wobbling of the wheel. The steering damper is thus already capable of causing effective interference in, or completely suppressing, oscillations of a small amplitude which become effective about the steering axle at the beginning of oscillating movements. In contrast hereto, the hydraulic steering damper which is usually provided in wheel mounts has a damping value of zero at the dead centres of oscillating movements about the steering axle. Therefore, there can be no appreciable build up of hydraulic force in the steering damper which could possibly prevent wobbling of the wheel.
