In resistance welding of aluminium or aluminium-alloy components, considerable problems arise because aluminium alloys onto the contact surface of the welding electrodes and the electrodes adhere to the workpieces. The previous attempts to overcome these difficulties have not been a total success. Surprisingly, it has been found that a substantial improvement can be achieved by using a copper alloy containing more than 0.3 to 1.5% oxygen and 0.2 to 1.0% silver and/or 0.2 to 0.5% nickel, the remainder being copper, including normal, unavoidable impurities, to produce the electrodes.
