The invention relates to a suction device for positioning and firmly holding pressure plates (19) on suction tables (1 to 4) of a turnstile arrangement (12). The suction tables are fastened to flange projections (27) of a cylindrical hub part (13) and can be easily exchanged. The suction tables (1 to 4) are arranged in pairs in two planes (I, II) enclosing a right angle with one another. The turnstile arrangement is pivoted by a motor (14) in steps of 90 DEG . For positioning the pressure plate (19), stop pins (34) and drive rollers (33) are provided in each suction table. The stop pins (34) and the drive rollers (33) can be lifted above the level of the supporting plane of the suction table and lowered beneath it. Sensors (35) detect the edges of the pressure plate (19) which lie against the stop pins (34), switch off the drive of the drive rollers (33), lower the latter together with the stop pins (34) and switch on the vacuum for the suction table in order to suck in the pressure plate (19), which is positioned thereon, by negative pressure. <IMAGE>
