[Also in Division G2] A photo-polymerizable material comprises polymerizable compound containing an olefinic double bond, a photo-initiator of formula in which R 1 and R 2 complete a 6-membered saturated or unsaturated carbocyclic ring which may be substituted R 3 , R 4 , R 5 and R 6 are hydrogen or halogen at least one being halogen or R 3 and R 5 complete a 5-membered saturated or unsaturated carbocyclic ring which may be substituted and optionally a polymeric binder. N-vinyl carbazole is exemplified as photo-polymerizable compound which may be admixed with a novolak binder and initiator and coated on an aluminium or laminated paper support. The material is imagewise exposed and developed to produce a printing plate. Other specified binders are styrene/ maleic anhydride copolymer, phenol cresol or N,N-dialkylaniline formaldehyde condensates, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polystyrene and cellulose acetate. Other specified monomers are substituted N- vinylcarbazoles, vinyl triazoles and vinyldibenzofurans, acrylic compounds, vinyl pyrrolidones, vinyl acetates and vinyl ethers, dienes, stilbene, styrene derivatives, and acenaphthylene. |
