PURPOSE:To make the loading mechanism small and using a testing rod and testing ring that is available in the market and make it possible to conduct oil film strength test with high accuracy by providing a construction in which the applied load is received by concentrating it at one point of the test ring as a method of measuring simply the strength of lubricant oil film. CONSTITUTION:When a switch 21 is started with no load, the test ring 4 rotates by a motor 2, and the specimen oil in a oil tank 7 is supplied to the contact section with the test rod 5 as the ring 4 rotates. With addition of weights by and by, the sliding frictional force exerted to the test rod 5 increases as the load at the contact section increases. At the limit at which the oil film is broken, seizure develops between the test ring 4 and the test rod 5, increasing the load to the motor 2 suddenly. Here the motor stops. The load at the contact section is given by counting the number of weights at the time of motor stopping, and a table prepared for the purpose. When the motor 2 stops, the switch 21 is opened. Weights 61 are removed and the second lever 31 is lifted up. Then the test rod 5 moves away from the test ring 4. It is possible to conduct many tests with one test rod 5 by loosening the mounting member 51, rotating the test rod 5, and shifting the contact face. By the way, the outer race of a conical roller bearing can be used for the test ring 4, and the roller of a cylindrical roller bearing can be used for the test rod 5. |
