<p>PURPOSE:To connect crosslinked pipes so that the junction may have great strength, by applying a crosslinkable polyolefin composition containing an organic peroxide to the interface of a pipe coupling of a crosslinked polyolefin with crosslinked polyolefin pipes, and heating them to crosslink the composition. CONSTITUTION:The pipe coupling and the pipes both of a crosslinkable or crosslinked polyolefin (e.g. polyethylenes, etc.) are inserted in a connecting jig that has been heated electrically, then after they are heated, they are removed from the connecting jig, and the outer surface of the tips of the pipes are applied with the crosslinking agent containing one or more polyolefins and an organic peroxide (e.g. dialkyl peroxides, etc.), and, if necessary, an antioxidant (e.g. aromatic amine derivatives, etc.), and a sulfur vulcanizer (e.g. powder sulfur, etc.), and then the pipes are inserted in the coupling. The sections to be connected are secured until the surface temperature of that sections reaches about 50 deg.C, then after the sections are heated to about 230 deg.C, they are cooled and hardened to be bonded.</p> |
