A method of grinding workpieces, e.g. glass or hard metals, with a holder for the workpiece, a feed mechanism and a grinding head and an abrasive-feeding device. In precision NC-controlled grinding and polishing machines, a hard-to-explain correlation between smooth running and the operating result often appears. This is often less satisfactory than in less accurate conventional machines. To improve the result of such operating methods, it is proposed that a relative movement be superimposed by oscillations via the rotational or oscillating movement between workpiece and grinding tool.
