The invention concerns a drive or conveyor belt which is joinable together from individual part-lengths, for example by means of connecting hooks. The part-lengths have at least one woven fabric layer formed from weft threads composed of polyamide or the like and warp threads composed of polyester. The fabric layer may have a multi-ply woven construction. It preferably has been pretreated in such a way that in the rubberising step it is handleable essentially free of longitudinal tensions and thereafter vulcanisable without afterstretching. To enhance the strength and non-extensibility, the invention proposes in respect of a belt which is to be used underground that warp threads made of polyester are wholly or partly surrounded with polyvinyl acetate or polyvinyl alcohol or warp threads of polyester are assigned polyamide threads extending in the warp direction.
