A method and system for analysing specimens include the turning on of an electric lamp (14) to produce a beam of light on one side of a container (22) holding a specimen (26) to be analysed. At least one signal proportional to the transmittance of the specimen (26) is generated a predetermined length of time after the lamp (14) is turned on, the lamp (14) is turned off after the generation of the signal and maintained off until the generation of a next successive signal. Each transmittance signal is conveniently generated an equal length of time after the lamp (14) is turned on and may be used to determine a characteristic of the specimen (26). |
