<p>The lamp socket is designed for long, tubular strip lights carrying a rectangular, push-fit type connection near each end. A plastics insulating housing is open at the top and has curved end walls to accommodate the tube profile. One electrical contact is made through the metallic outer upper wall of the lamp plug and the other through a metallic section near the base. A piece of wire is shaped with a vertical rectangular section (44) and two lateral wings. It snap-fits into a narrow pocket (26) moulded into one end wall of the housing. The lateral wings extend to the opposite end wall and fit into position beneath two lugs. The lower contact is a shaped metal stamping which slides through slots in an end wall into the base of the housing. It has a pair of side wings which are forced slightly inwards when inserted and grip the lower metal contact strip of the plug fitting. The lower contact is fixed to the housing by a screw through the base section. The two electrical contacts are kept separate by an insulating spacer plug.</p> |
