<p>The otter board has a hydrodynamic form and connects a warp cable to a spacer arm of a fishing net towed by a trawler, serving to keep the mouth of the net open. It has an elongated perforated 'S' shape in plan, providing minimal water resistance i.e. affording nominal resistance to forward motion through the water. The tractive power required of the trawler is also reduced to reduce the quantities of motor fuel used during fishing operations.</p> |
