The previous methods for straw handling and straw transport have been unsatisfactory in terms of the time required for loading and unloading, pollution of the environment by loose straw particles and the risk of fire. The large straw bales are loaded onto a slide-like mount at the storage point. This mount is then picked up by the transport vehicle and transported in a closed container. The unloading station is designed for unloading by means of the slide. The figure shows this diagrammatically. The loading operation and unloading operation take up only a very short time, because the entire slide together with straw is moved once each time. Such a method is expedient when relatively large quantities of straw are to be delivered to a consumption point, for example to a central straw-fired plant of relatively high capacity. <IMAGE>
