PURPOSE:To make an apparatus compact and to easily exchange a catalyst, by incorporating the product obtained by depositing a metallic oxide catalyst on a clothlike matter of fibrous activated carbon having an area/weight ratio larger than a specified value as the catalyst for the purpose of ozonolysis in a deodorizing apparatus by ozone oxidation. CONSTITUTION:Acetates of Mn, Co, and Cr, etc. ans salts of catalytic metals are adsorbed onto a fibrous activated carbon cloth having >=100 m<3>/g area/ weight ratio, and after drying said treated cloth, the cloth is immersed in an aqueous solution containg NH3 to deposit a hydroxide of catalytic metal on the fibrous activated carbon, and successively the cloth is heated to 120-130 deg.C after being rinsed and dried to convert the hydroxide into an oxide. The treated fibrous activated carbon cloth 8 is formed into a wave-shaped one and then is incorporated in a reactor 7. O3 produced by an ozone generator 3 is added to malodorous gas and the added gas is passed through the cloth 8 via a gas scrubbing tower 4 and a ''Demister '' 6 to accelerate an oxidative reaction of the malororous components, thereby discharging the treated gas 2. |
