PURPOSE:To minimize the formation of an optical path on an optical scanning stage and to realize the miniaturization of an original reading device which gives an optical scanning to an original, by setting the refracting point of the optical path and the photodetecting surface of a solid state image pickup element asymmetrical to the optical path through which the original is illuminated. CONSTITUTION:An original is irradiated by lamps 41 and 42 held in lamp housings 61 and 62 provided at the lower part of an original platen 2 of a glass plate, etc. The image of the original is reflected by a reflector 23 and through a slit 7 and reaches a solid state image pickup element 11 via an image forming element (lens) 10. Then the optical image is converted into electric signals. For the constitution of an optical path on an original scanning stage, the back travelling length l1 is larger than the front travelling length l2. Thus the housing of the reading device main body is larger than the platen 2 by an amount equivalent to the difference between the l1 and l2. Using this extra space, a control board is provided on the upper surface of the main body housing. This can miniaturize the original reading device. |
