The blocks (1) have central orifices (3) aligned in the longitudinal axial direction (I) before the blocks are joined with a hardening material (2) between consecutive blocks. The joints are then pierced to form holes (4) that are aligned with the orifices. A prestressing rod (5) is introduced into the holes, and a traction force is applied parallel to the axial direction, with such a force on the assembled units (10) that the joints crush between block contact faces without the latter coming into contact. A mortar (6) is injected into the holes around the prestressing rod and when it hardens a further axial traction force is applied.
