In the case of a device for detecting the consumption of a sacrificial anode which is arranged in a container of a water heater or a hot-water reservoir (hot-water tank) having a cavity, water enters the cavity during consumption of the sacrificial anode. In order to be able to detect the consumption of the sacrificial anode in a simple manner, the cavity (6) has an opening (6') which is located outside the container (1) and is closed by means of a plug (7). For simple electrical consumption indication, an electrode (8) is connected to one terminal of the electrical supply network, and another electrode (9) is connected via a glow lamp (11) to the other terminal of the electrical supply network. <IMAGE>
