The hydraulic barrel recoil brake for gun barrels has a hydraulic cylinder (1) having a piston (5), which can be displaced axially therein, and a hollow piston rod (6). Orifices (4) in the inner wall (2) of the hydraulic cylinder (1) produce the through connection of the space in the hydraulic cylinder (1) in front of the moving-back piston (5) to the space located at the rear. The piston (5) is connected like a telescope to a further, inner piston rod (12), no braking effects occurring during the first barrel recoil phase. For this purpose, the inner piston rod (12) carries a piston (11) which can be displaced axially between end stops (8, 9) and said inner piston rod (12) is firmly connected to the gun barrel. <IMAGE>
