A container 10, is immersed in a liquid 12 e. g. sewage and is hence filled with a sample through an opening 24 in its base 22 which leads to a flexible tube 36 flattened at its inner end to provide a slit 38, the displaced air passing through a pipe 16. When the container is full, compressed air is passed through the pipe 16 to force the sample through a pipe 18 to the sampling station 14, the tube 36 being closed by the compressed air, Fig. 5 (not shown). The taper of the tube 36 acts as a rough filter for particles suspended in the liquid to be sampled. The container 10 has a bracket 28 enabling it to be fixed at different depths within the liquid. The air-line 16 has a valve 44 which may be solenoid-operated or a mechanical three-way valve.</p> |
