The invention relates to a dental/orthodontic handpiece comprising an essentially straight handle (2) and a working head (5), especially for the direct placement of adhesive brackets (9) on dental surfaces. Between the handle and the working head the instrument is roughly of U-shaped design, so that the handle is outside the oral cavity during use. During work on molars the angle of the mouth and the cheek are located in the U-shaped region of the handpiece. Moreover, the working head is located in the extension of the mid-line of the handle.
