In order to provide a simple and inexpensive method of packaging articles, a length of tubular, flexible packaging material, e.g. netting, 1 is closed throughout at spaced zones 2. The packaging material 1 is then drawn through the inside of a cylinder 11 and its leading end is held open by folding it back over the upper edge of the cylinder 11. Articles 24 are then placed in the packaging material 1. The top of the bag so formed can be tied and the packaging material 1 is severed just below the first closed zone 2.
