PURPOSE:To decrease the impact force in the stage of biting into finishing rolls by providing a pressurizing device between the final stand and finishing stand of the roughing mills of hot rolling stands and decreasing the thickness in the preceding end part of a material to be rolled. CONSTITUTION:A pressurizing device P such as a flying press or a moving type press is provided behind the final stand Rn of a roughing mill, and the preceding part of a material S to be rolled having a thickness t0 on the outlet side in the final stand Rn is crushed to provide a thin walled part of a thickness t0', which is cut with a flying shear FCS. The material is fed to the 1st stand F1 of finishing rolls, whereby the material is rolled. When the roll gap of the 1st stand F1 is defined as t1, the gap is regulated to t1>t0', by which the impact to be exerted upon the rolls when the material is bitten into the rolls is decreased, and the damage of the gears, bearings, spindles, etc. of the roll driving device is prevented. |
