PURPOSE:To reduce inclusions and to suppress ridging simultaneously by allowing solidification of molten steel to complete while maintaining the rate of growth of the solidified shell at each point of the time during solidifying at rates higher than specific values. CONSTITUTION:In a casting stage for manufacturing of 18% Cr stainless steel plates, molten steel is allowed to complete solidification while the rate of growth of the solidified shell at each point of time during the solidifcation is kept at >=0.8mm. per second. At such rate of solidification, the growth of columnar crystals which can be the cause for ridging is suppressed, fine structure is formed and directivity is lost. Thus workability is improved considerably. |
