The pipework (1) carries hot fluid and is interconnected by a spigot and socket with a clamping ring (32) and bolts (34). A flexible membrane (20) is inserted in the joint allowing differential movement of the two pipes whilst maintaining a seal. The inner leaf (40) of the membrane is fixed, by a threaded ring (24), in a housing (12) welded to the spigot. When the joint is assembled, a bearing ring (26) is inserted under the clamping ring and clamps the outer leaf (41) of the membrane to the leading edge (60) of the socket. During differential movement the circumferential corrugations (42,43) provide the membrane with the necessary flexibility.
