Tubular fabric articles, e.g. pantyhose, are transferred from holders and everted onto a rigid support by movable slide carrying at least four spreader fingers. The slide is reciprocable by a drive unit, and the fingers are spreadable and contractable by linkages connecting them with another drive unit, so that the fingers can enter and spread the mouth region of the tubular fabric and carry it over the rigis support before being contracted to release the tubular fabric mouth onto the support. Tubular fabric articles such as pantyhose are transferred automatically between sewing process, e.g. assembly process and crotch-patch application process.
