There are known apparatuses for the wrapping and enveloping of paper stacks, which are provided with a hollow shaft which is equipped with a longitudinal slot provided for receiving the end region of the stacks and is mounted in a rocker and which can be pivoted out of a predetermined basic position after the insertion of the end region of a stack and can be driven in rotation. In such an apparatus for the wrapping and enveloping of paper stacks, these are to be capable, even under unfavourable conditions, of being grasped securely, wrapped and easily pushed out. It is proposed, for this purpose, that there be mounted on the free end of the hollow shaft having a longitudinal slot an outer slotted sleeve, the axis-parallel longitudinal slot of which adjoins, at the inner end of the latter, a slot extension extending obliquely relative to the generatrices, and that there engages through the hollow shaft a sliding rod, the free end of which extends over the essentially clear profile of the hollow shaft and engages with a lateral projection through the slots of the hollow shaft and of the slotted sleeve.
