Novel macrolides of formula (I): <CHEM> where Q is -CHO or -CH2OH and Y is hydroxyl or a mycarosyloxy group; and salts or esters thereof; can be prepared by the submerged aerobic cultivation of Streptomyces fradiae ATCC 31669 and are of value in the chemotherapy of microbiai infections in warm blooded animals and as intermediates in the preparation of other closely related macrolide antibiotics. |
