The device is used for determining the times and duration of direct solar irradiation at a location which are possible in the absence of clouds. The observer sees the image of sun and landscape reflected at the surface (3) of a lens (1), and a line grid (17) which specifies the locations of the sun at the various times of the day and seasons. The construction of the device allows the orientation in accordance with the compass bearings and the geographical position for each location. Particular advantages are the low production expenditure and possibility of immediately obtaining an overview of the solar irradiation conditions at one glance. The device can be used in the planning of buildings, in garden centres, in agriculture and so forth. <IMAGE>
