METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TRIMMING SIDES OF STEEL BELT

PURPOSE:To trim the sides of a steel belt with precision by a method wherein a shearing means and a tool cutting means are combined to control shearing due to a rotary circular cutter and tool cutting selectively according to the side trimming quantity. CONSTITUTION:The width of the steel belt 1 sent along the line in the direction of the arrow is measured by the width meter 2 and the measured value a is inputted into the controlling device 5. The measured value a is compared with a specified value b and computed 6 and the trimming quantity C is detected. This signal is compared with the specified value D and a cutting operation signal is sent from an instructing device 7 to tools 4 and simultaneously the operation of rotary shearing circular cutters 3, 3 is controlled according to the detected trimming quantity. In other words, when the quantity exceeds the specified value D, the circular cutters work and when the quantity is under the specified value, shearing is carried out only by the cutting tool.
