In a cable-type window lifter (10), especially for motor vehicles, having a driver (20) guided along a guide rail (14) and engaging on a window pane, and having a pull cable (22) which is fastened to the driver (20) and which is guided along a cable loop from a first run-off point (A) on the driver (20), by way of a first cable deflection in the region of one of the ends of the guide rail (14), to a cable drive (12) and from this, by way of a second cable deflection in the region of the other end of the guide rail (14), to a second run-off point (B) on the driver (20), it is proposed, in order to increase the window-lifter stroke, that, when the driver is located between the cable deflections, the first run-off point (A) is nearer the second cable deflection than the second run-off point (B), and that the two run-off points (A and B) and/or the two cable deflections are so offset relative to one another in a direction at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the rail that, in all the positions of the driver (20), the cable portions (50 and 52) are spaced from one another and from the cable deflection assigned to the respective other cable portion. <IMAGE>
