In order to improve the quality of printed copies produced by the letterpress method, a pair of cylinders, covered in each case with a rubber blanket, is connected downstream of the forme / back pressure cylinders. After a few revolutions, the cylinders pick up ink and pass it on again, thus becoming ink carriers. This results in equalising and refining of the printed surfaces produced on the printing carrier plate.
