A method and device for treating dental ceramic compositions of a ceramic powder treated with liquid and, where appropriate, a colouring agent, as well as devices suitable therefor, are to be improved in such a way that mixing of ceramic compositions in dentistry no longer requires addition of a comparatively high proportion of liquid; moreover, sufficient compaction and favourable handling during application and modelling are to be achieved. For this purpose, the ceramic composition is irradiated with sound in the frequency range above 20 kHz, predominantly in the rhythm of an electric alternating field. The device is distinguished in that a handpiece (1) is provided with at least one piezoelectric element (15, 16) and the working part thereof, for example a modelling blade (2) is arranged so as to be movable by sound in the frequency range above 20 kHz. In addition, a mixing vessel (32) is to be pivotably connected with at least one piezoelectric element. <IMAGE>
