PURPOSE:To obtain an image forming apparatus, such as electrophotographic copying machine or a recording apparatus, prevented from unexpectedly shutting of the opening of the main apparatus when an operator tries to remove jammed paper by putting in his hand through the opening. CONSTITUTION:An upper unit 3 is provided with a stay 12 rotatable around a shaft 13. Since this stay 12 is energized on the projected edge 12A in the direction A with a spring 15 fixed to a pin 14, its other edge 12b touches the side of a stopper 16 on the bottom plate 11 of a lower unit 4 when the upper unit 3 of the main body 1 of a copying machine is opened. When an operator tries to push down the unit 3 at this sate to close it, the stay 12 comes into contact with the lower face 16c of the stopper 16 and its vertical part 16d and hinders the turn of the unit 3, and further, since the stay 12 bends protruding in the opening direction of the unit 3, and the upward reaction force acting on the stay 12 produces rotational moment in the direction B, the unit 3 is never shut unexpectedly by deviation of the stay 12 in the direction C. |
