PURPOSE:To obtain an oxide optical material consisting of PbMoO4 without causing the oxidation, by heat-treating a PbMoO4 single crystal grown from a raw material melt consisting of PbO and MoO3 in excess of the stoichiometric ratio in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at a specific temperature or above. CONSTITUTION:MoO3 in an amount of 1mol% more than the stoichiometric ratio is mixed with PbO in an amount of 1mol% less than the stoichiometric ratio at a molar ratio of 51:49%. The resultant mixture is then molten as a raw material, and a single crystal of PbMoO4 is grown from the melt by the pulling method. The resultant single crystal is then heat-treated in a nonoxidizing atmosphere, e.g. N2, at 500 deg.C or above to give an oxide optical material without causing the blackening in the irradiation with light of wavelength shorter than about 4,500Angstrom . The resultant optical material is usable without changing the characteristics of an optical modulator for laser of short wavelength, e.g. He-Cd laser. |
