Before a measurement quantity is recorded by means of an analog recording instrument, several measurement parameters such as, for example, measuring range, zero position and paper advance speed, must be generally set. The method proposed by the invention, and the associated circuit arrangement, make it possible to generate a complete measurement document with little additional expenditure in an analog recording instrument, preferably having several channels. Thus, apart from the analog recorded measurement values, all parameters needed for the evaluation are recorded on the recording paper. According to the invention, a control command is generated for this in the recording instrument, which command has the effect that the measurement parameters of the measuring channel or of the measuring channels are successively imaged as analog signals of predetermined duration and constant signal amplitude and are recorded by the analog recording device.
